Corinne Oster is a Professor of Translation and Translation Studies at the University of Lille, where she serves as Head of the Translation and Interpreting Department. She is affiliated with the Faculty of Languages, Culture and Societies (LCS) and teaches within the Department of English Studies (Angellier). Her academic work bridges translation theory, gender studies, and film studies, with a particular focus on how translation interacts with cultural representation and power dynamics.
Professor Oster's research interests span multiple interconnected fields. She specializes in Translation Studies with emphases on film translation, literary translation, and the translation of gendered discourse. Her work in Gender Studies focuses on women filmmakers, female representation in cinema, and feminist approaches to translation. In Film Studies, she examines French cinema, particularly women directors from the 1990s, and analyzes how power dynamics and social class are represented in film. Her research demonstrates how translation serves as a critical lens for understanding cultural transmission, identity construction, and ideological positioning across linguistic boundaries.
Her publication record reveals consistent scholarly engagement with the intersections of translation, gender, and film over the past two decades. Oster's work demonstrates a clear trajectory from analyzing specific film translations to developing broader theoretical frameworks for understanding how translation mediates cultural representations of gender, power, and social class. Her research shows particular attention to how feminist perspectives inform translation practices and how cinematic narratives are transformed across linguistic and cultural boundaries.
Professor Oster is an active member of the Center for Studies in Civilizations, Languages and Foreign Literature (ULR 4074), where her research contributes to interdisciplinary scholarship on cultural representation and linguistic mediation. Her work connects translation studies with broader questions of cultural identity, social power, and artistic expression across linguistic boundaries.
