Dr. Constance Bantman is an Associate Professor in French and Head of Literature and Languages at the University of Surrey's School of Arts, Humanities and Creative Industries. She specializes in the history of the French anarchist movement (1870–1939), transnational networks, and print culture. Her research emphasizes political exiles, transnational print media, and anarchist terrorism in the long 19th century. She holds fellowships from the Society for Higher Education in Africa (SFHEA) and the Royal Historical Society (FRHistS).
Education: BA, MA, PhD; Graduate of the École Normale Supérieure (Lyon-LSH).
Research Interests: Franco-British political exchanges, transnational print culture, and anarchist transnationalism. Her monograph The French Anarchists in London (1880–1914) explores exile communities and global networks. She co-edited The Foreign Political Press in London and recently published Jean Grave and the Networks of French Anarchism.
Collaborations: Co-convenor of the Mobilities Research Centre, collaborating internationally on transnational studies.
Supervision: Advises PhD candidates on topics like anarchist history and transnational political culture, including Felix Clutson (cultural translation in football reporting) and Megan Williams (anarchism in literary contexts).
Awards: SFHEA and FRHistS fellowships.
