Conor Clements serves as an Academic Casual within the Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences at Macquarie University. His research centers on phonological and sociolinguistic analysis of Australian English, with specific expertise in vowel duration patterns and ethnolectal variation.
His primary research interests include Phonology, Australian English, Sociolinguistics, Speech Science, Vowel Duration, and Lexical Conditioning. He investigates how phonological environments and lexical factors condition vowel articulation in Australian speech communities, particularly examining TRAP vowel duration and /l/ allophony across diverse speaker groups.
Both his 2024 and 2025 publications demonstrate a concentrated focus on Australian English phonetics, revealing consistent methodological approaches in analyzing lexical-phonological interactions and sociophonetic variation. His work bridges theoretical phonology with empirical speech analysis, contributing to understanding regional accent evolution and speaker identity markers in contemporary Australian English.
