She holds a PhD from the University of St. Gallen (2008), followed by postdoctoral work at the Swiss Institute for Empirical Economic Research and an Assistant Professorship in Economics at the University of St. Gallen. She transitioned to a full-time Associate Professor position at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2012 before joining the University of Basel in 2013. Her research focuses on labour market policies, minimum wage effects, unemployment insurance mechanisms, and gender pay gap analysis with a strong emphasis on policy evaluation and empirical methodology.
Her work integrates macroeconomic perspectives with micro-level interventions, such as active labour market policies and phased retirement schemes. Recent studies explore digital skills preferences among students, the societal impact of minimum wage policies, and methodological challenges in wage equality analyses. She leads the 'Labor Economics (Wunsch)' research group and has received grants like the Volkswagen Foundation's reviewer support (2025).
Her academic contributions span over two decades, with notable projects including evaluations of Germany’s welfare-to-work programmes and the effectiveness of vocational training. She advises on policy design, emphasizing evidence-based approaches to mitigate labour market disparities and enhance workforce participation across demographic groups.
