Connie L. Chronister, OD, MS, FAAO is a Professor at Drexel University's College of Optometry, holding roles including Chief of Suite 1 at The Eye Institute, Coordinator of Ocular Biology Laboratories, and Lecturer in Ocular Biology and Microbiology courses. She completed her BS and OD from Pennsylvania College of Optometry (1986), followed by a Primary Care Residency at The Eye Institute (1987) and an MS in Education from Salus University. Her clinical expertise focuses on Primary Care Optometry and Low Vision, with a research emphasis on HIV/AIDS in optometry, infectious disease management, and clinical education.
Chronister has received prestigious awards including the Onofrey G. Rybachok Educator of the Year (1996-97) and Clinical Educator of the Year (1991). Her over 30 publications span topics like quality assurance in optometry, HIV/AIDS complications, and systemic disease impacts on ocular health. She has contributed to textbooks on HIV/AIDS and glaucoma pathophysiology, and her work integrates clinical practice with public health strategies.
As an educator, she moderates clinical case conferences and has pioneered teaching methods in ocular microbiology and immunology. Her research often bridges clinical care and broader health system challenges, such as iatrogenic infection risks and dietary health implications for eye patients. Chronister also serves as a Low Vision Specialist at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, extending her clinical impact beyond academia.
