Conan OCeallaigh is a Lecturer and Principal Investigator at the Department of Building & Civil Engineering, Atlantic Technological University. He holds a PhD from the University of Galway (2016) and a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from the same university (2012). His research focuses on sustainable timber engineering, including the structural design of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) and mass timber solutions for multi-story and modular construction. He specializes in creep behavior of timber elements, finite element modeling, and circular economy principles in construction.
Previously, he served as a Research Fellow with the Timber Engineering Research Group at the University of Galway. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption, and climate action. He leads national and EU-funded projects on timber innovation and lifecycle assessment practices.
Key research interests include timber reinforcement, hygro-mechanical behavior of materials, and low-carbon construction. His publications span over 50 articles, with a focus on timber mechanics, LCA methodologies, and CLT structural performance.
