Conal O'Grada is a distinguished traditional Irish flute player and educator at University College Cork (UCC), serving as the resident flute tutor in the Department of Music within the School of Film, Music and Theatre. A multiple All-Ireland winner, he is renowned for his seminal recordings, including The Top of Coom (1990) and Cnoc Buí (2008). His 2025 release Anú Abú explores Irish mythology and folklore through original compositions.
He teaches globally via online lessons, summer schools (e.g., Willie Clancy Summer School), and universities like University of Limerick. Co-founder of the community flute band Banna Fliúit Loch a’Bhogaigh and theatrical collective Nóta Stóta, he also runs Millíní Music, a cultural immersion course blending music, archaeology, and Irish language in West Cork.
His pedagogical contributions include the acclaimed flute tutor An Fheadóg Mhór…Irish Traditional Flute Technique. Collaborations with artists like Caoimhín Ó Fearghail and bands like Raw Bar Collective highlight his role in both preserving and innovating traditional music.
