معرفی
Dr Collin Sones serves as a Principal Research Fellow at the University of Southampton's Optoelectronics Research Centre within the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences. His work bridges photonics engineering and biomedical diagnostics through laser-based fabrication techniques.
His research focuses on developing laser-patterned microfluidic devices for point-of-care medical diagnostics, with particular emphasis on
- paper-based lateral flow assays for infectious disease detection
- CRP and inflammatory biomarker monitoring systems
- antimicrobial resistance testing platforms
- neurodegenerative disease monitoring tools
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong trajectory in enhancing sensitivity of paper-based diagnostics through fluid dynamics optimization and multiplexing capabilities, with applications spanning sepsis detection, asthma severity assessment, and pandemic response tools including SARS-CoV-2 testing.
Dr Sones actively supervises PhD researcher Ahsan Ali and collaborates extensively with Professor Robert Eason, Professor Myron Christodoulides, and international partners through EPSRC, Research England, and Rosetrees Trust-funded projects. His current work includes the India Centre for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development initiative.
