Colleen Cameron Whiting

Colleen Cameron Whiting, OTD, OTR/L, is an Assistant Professor at Johnson & Wales University (JWU) since 2024. She has over 25 years of occupational therapy experience, focusing on children with sensory integration challenges, autism, and trauma. Her roles include teaching in occupational therapy doctorate programs at multiple universities, including Boston University's Department of Occupational Therapy Online Program (past role). Whiting holds advanced degrees: a Post-Professional Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD) from Boston University, a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (M.S.) from Boston University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Boston College.

Her research emphasizes sensory integration interventions in schools, trauma-informed approaches, and multi-tiered support systems. Key interests include improving student occupational engagement through evidence-based practices and manualized Ayres Sensory Integration frameworks. Whiting has presented internationally and contributed to professional development trainings for practitioners, parents, and educators.

Whiting has received AOTA Service Commendations annually from 2020 to 2023 and was featured on the Boston University Health Matters Podcast. Her teaching spans courses like OTD7130 (Assessment and Theory) and OTD9910 (Doctoral Capstone Project). She also serves as Co-Government Relations Representative for MAOT, an Editorial Review Board Member for The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy, and a member of AOTA’s School Mental Health and Childhood Trauma Communities of Practice.
