Colin West

Colin West is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth, Faculty of Creative & Cultural Industries, School of Film, Media and Creative Technologies. He serves as course leader for BSc(Hons) Computer Animation and Visual Effects and deputy course leader for BA(Hons) Animation. He is affiliated with the Centre for Creative and Immersive XR and actively contributes to research and innovation in digital visual effects and real-time creative technologies.

His educational background includes a BA(Hons) in Technical & Information Illustration and an MA in Digital Effects. His industry experience includes working at award-winning VFX studios such as Framestore and Double Negative on major films including 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Jupiter Ascending', as well as high-profile commercials for brands like Audi, Pepsi, and British Airways.

Colin's research centers on the integration of photo-realistic digital effects into real-time environments and the exploration of emerging technologies in visual effects. His interests span immersive XR, digital animation, real-time rendering, and creative software development. He is deeply engaged in pushing the boundaries of digital storytelling and interactive media.
