Colin Shewell is a Lecturer in Computing Science (Internet of Things) at the School of Computing, Ulster University. He holds a First Class honours degree in ICT and a PhD in Computer Science from Ulster University. Previously, he served as a Research Associate within the CHIC research group for two years.
His research focuses on machine vision, wearable technology, and connected health solutions, with particular emphasis on applications such as aging-in-place support, dementia care monitoring, and fall detection. His work integrates IoT, sensor networks, and probabilistic modeling to address challenges in healthcare and assistive technologies.
Shewell's publications span activity recognition, indoor localization, and abnormal behavior detection in healthcare contexts. His research often emphasizes non-invasive sensing techniques and wearable computing solutions for real-world deployment.
