Colin Olito is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Genetics of Sex Differences Research group at Lund University's Department of Biology, Sweden. He is also affiliated with BECC (Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate) and the Biodiversity and Evolution research areas. His work focuses on theoretical population genetics with special emphasis on sex-specific selection in species without separate sexes.
Olito's research interests center on the evolutionary consequences of sex-specific selection, particularly for species without separate sexes. His work explores the evolution of recombination suppression between sex chromosomes, genome structural evolution, and evolutionary demography of partially selfing populations. Much of his research is inspired by the diversity of flowering plant reproductive traits, mating systems, sexual systems, and ploidy variation. His primary research areas include Population Genetics, Sex Chromosomes, Hermaphrodites, Mating Systems, and Recombination, with particular focus on theoretical models of evolutionary processes.
His recent publications demonstrate significant contributions to understanding balancing selection, sex chromosome evolution, and recombination suppression mechanisms. His work spans theoretical modeling and empirical studies of sex chromosome systems across diverse organisms including plants and birds like ostriches.
