Colin Kim is a Research Fellow at Harvard University working in the Ryan Nett Lab, focusing on evolutionary origins of neofunctionalized enzymes in plant metabolism and engineering approaches to harness plant chemical diversity.
He earned his doctorate in biological engineering from MIT/Whitehead Institute under Jing-Ke Weng, where his groundbreaking work included discovering the first Fe(II)- and 2-oxoglutarate-dependent halogenase in plants and elucidating proton exchange-based isomerization mechanisms in coumarin biosynthesis via BAHD-family enzymes.
His core research areas include:
- Plant Metabolism
- Enzyme Evolution
- Natural Product Biosynthesis
- Plant Biochemistry
- Metabolic Engineering
His scholarly profile is accessible through ORCID and Google Scholar, with primary contact at colinkim@fas.harvard.edu.
