Colin Devey

Prof. Colin Devey holds the Chair in Dynamics of the Ocean Floor at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre. He earned his D.Phil from University of Oxford and completed a Royal Society Fellowship in France.

Research focuses on seafloor formation processes:

• Magma genesis at mid-ocean ridges
• Hydrothermal system evolution
• Intraplate volcanism
• Ridge-hotspot interactions

Recent expeditions mapped Red Sea spreading centers and Arctic seamount ecosystems. Publications document volcanic and tectonic processes in nascent oceans.

Honors include:

• Stein im Brett Award (2022)
• Royal Society Fellowship

Dr. Devey directs research programs on seafloor resource formation and serves on international oceanographic steering committees. He created documentary content for ZDF Terra X series on continental geology.
