Colin Coyle is a Lecturer in the Department of Health and Sport Sciences at South East Technological University (SETU), affiliated with the healthCORE research group. He holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology from Trinity College Dublin (2013), an MSc in Exercise Physiology from Trinity College Dublin (2006), and a BSc in Sport & Exercise Science from the University of Gloucestershire (2002).
His research focuses on exercise physiology applications in sports, including performance optimization, recovery strategies, and statistical methodologies in sports science. Key areas include adolescent athlete profiling, warm-up protocols, and biomechanical analysis of sports movements. His work combines anthropometric assessments with functional performance metrics.
Recent studies include a cross-sectional analysis of Gaelic games athletes' fitness profiles and investigations into stretching warm-ups' impact on leg extension performance. He is currently supervising PhD research exploring barefoot activity as a treatment for plantar fasciitis in active populations.
Dr. Coyle collaborates with sports teams and organizations to apply evidence-based practices in athletic development. His expertise spans both applied and theoretical aspects of sports science, with a focus on translating research into practical training methodologies.
