Colin Campbell is an Honorary Reader at the School of Mathematics and Statistics, University of St Andrews. His research focuses on computational group theory and semigroup theory, particularly the Todd-Coxeter coset enumeration algorithm, Reidemeister-Schreier algorithm, and their applications to Fibonacci groups and finite groups.
- Education: PhD (University of St Andrews), MSc (McGill University), MA (University of Edinburgh)
Research Interests: Over four decades, Colin has investigated semigroup presentations, symmetric group presentations, and the efficiency of finite groups and semigroups. His work bridges theoretical and computational algebra, with recent studies on quasi-commutative inverse semigroups and Fibonacci-Lucas number relationships in group structures.
Key Publications: His recent articles, such as An example of a quasi-commutative inverse semigroup (2024) and Groups St Andrews 2022 in Newcastle (2024), highlight his contributions to semigroup theory and computational algebra. Earlier works (2018-2020) emphasize conference organization, mathematical education, and algorithmic applications.
