Sandra Cohen is a Professor of Accounting at the Department of Business Administration, Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB). She holds dual doctorates (MBA and PhD) in Accounting from AUEB. Her research focuses on public sector accounting reforms, sustainability reporting, intellectual capital measurement, and governance mechanisms in local governments. She has contributed to major international projects including EC-funded initiatives and World Bank consulting assignments.
Currently serves as Co-chair of the XII Permanent Study Group on Public Sector Financial Management (EGPA) and Vice-chair of the Comparative International Governmental Accounting Research Network (CIGAR). She has authored/co-authored four Greek textbooks and multiple international book chapters, while editing special journal issues and book series on public sector accounting topics.
Professional roles include membership in Hellenic Accounting Standards Oversight Board and editorial boards of five academic journals. Her work emphasizes bridging accounting theory with practical governance challenges, particularly in austerity-driven environments and digital transformation initiatives.
Key contributions include studies on accrual accounting adoption in Greece, political influences on financial reporting, and innovative approaches to citizen-centric reporting using infographics and e-learning platforms.
