Clive Burgess is an Adjunct Professor and External PhD Supervisor in the Department of History at Royal Holloway, University of London. His research focuses on medieval religious institutions, parish structures, and social history. He led the AHRC-funded project A Church for England: Piety and Power on the Eve of the Reformation (2007). His work explores topics like merchant piety, chantries, and memory management in medieval parishes.
Research highlights include studies on All Saints' Bristol parish, Fotheringhay Church, and merchant communities' religious practices. He has supervised 9 postgraduate students and served as an external examiner at Lancaster University (2010–2012). His publications span books, peer-reviewed articles, and edited volumes, reflecting expertise in medieval religion and socio-economic history.
