معرفی
Clifford W. Cunningham is a Professor of Biology at Duke University, affiliated with the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences and the Biology Department since 2010. He holds a Ph.D. (1991) and B.S. (1983) in Biology from Yale University. His research focuses on evolutionary biology, phylogenetics, and the genetic and ecological processes shaping marine and terrestrial biodiversity. Key areas include cnidarian evolution, deep-sea ecosystems, and historical biogeography. Cunningham has led NSF-funded projects investigating arthropod phylogeny, hydrothermal vent communities, and Amazonian tree dispersal dynamics.

Research Interests
Cunningham’s work integrates molecular genetics, ecology, and systematics to address questions about species diversification, historical demography, and adaptation. His studies span marine invertebrates (e.g., clams, hydrozoans, crustaceans) and tropical plant communities. Recent projects emphasize gene flow mechanisms, phylogenetic reconstruction, and evolutionary responses to environmental change.
Grants & Recognition
He has secured over 20 major grants from NSF and NIH, including leadership roles in projects like the 'Tree of Life' initiative and studies on North Atlantic biogeography. His contributions have advanced methodologies in phylogenomics and ecological genetics.
Teaching & Service
Cunningham teaches courses such as Organismal Evolution and First-Year Seminars. He has delivered invited lectures globally (e.g., Taiwan, Portugal, Germany) and served on NSF review panels, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration and data standardization in evolutionary biology.
