Clifford Henry Taubes is a renowned American mathematician at Harvard University, specializing in geometric analysis. He holds the rank of Professor in the Department of Mathematics within the John A Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. His work bridges geometry, topology, and mathematical physics, particularly in gauge theory and differential equations.
He earned his B.A. from Cornell University (1975) and Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard (1980). After postdoctoral roles at Berkeley and Harvard, he joined Harvard's mathematics faculty in 1985. Taubes' research includes foundational contributions to Yang-Mills theory, the Seiberg-Witten invariants, and symplectic geometry.
His awards include the Oswald Veblen Prize (1991), Shaw Prize (2009), and Clay Research Award (2008). Notable publications cover topics like spectral flow analysis, vortex solutions, and moduli spaces. His work remains influential in understanding 4-manifolds and geometric structures.
