Clemens Brechtelsbauer

Clemens Brechtelsbauer is a Teaching Professor and Director of Chemical Engineering Education at Imperial College London's Department of Chemical Engineering, part of the Faculty of Engineering. He holds a doctorate in chemical engineering from Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, with 13 years of industry experience in pharmaceutical process development at GlaxoSmithKline and SmithKline Beecham. His academic leadership roles include Chair of Programmes Committee (2020–2025), Deputy Director of Undergraduate Studies (2017–present), and Principal Teaching Fellow (2010–2018). He is also a Visiting Reader (2007–2010) and maintains a non-academic consultancy role with Imperial Consultants.

His research focuses on Chemical Engineering Education, emphasizing experiential learning, curriculum design, and student-centered pedagogy. He pioneered the CREATE labs initiative for hybrid teaching environments and developed frameworks for independent learning in laboratories.
