Claus Schnabel is a Research Professor at the Leibniz Institute for Economic Research Halle (IWH) since March 2015 and a Professor of Economics at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg since April 2000. His work focuses on labor economics, industrial relations, and economic policy, particularly analyzing labor market dynamics, collective bargaining, and start-up employment patterns.
His research spans empirical analyses of wage disparities, union coverage, and the long-term labor market outcomes of workers in start-ups versus established firms. He employs econometric methods and linked employer-employee datasets to uncover trends in employment quality and policy implications.
Recent publications highlight the erosion of union wage coverage in Germany, the financial drawbacks of start-up employment, and the role of young firms in hiring marginalized workers despite offering lower-quality jobs. These works intersect labor economics, entrepreneurship, and econometrics, emphasizing economic inequality and policy reform.
