Claus P. Behrens

Claus P. Behrens is a Professor at the Department of Health Technology, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and holds an external position as Hospital Physicist (Radiotherapy) at Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte. His research focuses on advancing radiation therapy techniques, including adaptive radiotherapy, image-guided treatments, and optimizing radiation dosimetry for cancer patients. Behrens specializes in improving radiotherapy precision through innovative imaging modalities like photon-counting CT and MR-Linac systems.

His research interests span adaptive radiotherapy for bladder, anal, and prostate cancers, along with liver metastases. He explores AI-driven target delineation, motion management, and minimizing geometric uncertainties in treatment planning. Behrens has contributed to over 24 peer-reviewed publications, with recent work emphasizing photon-counting CT optimization and PTV margin reduction strategies.

Behrens has supervised seven PhD students, including projects on motion-managed lung radiotherapy, 3D/4D ultrasound imaging in prostate cancer, and Monte Carlo-based treatment planning.
