Claudio Punzo

Claudio Punzo, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School School of Medicine. He serves as Principal Investigator of the Punzo Lab, which focuses on developing treatments for photoreceptor degenerative diseases. His research is primarily funded by the NIH and patient foundations, with a strong emphasis on translational approaches to preserve vision in retinal degenerative conditions.

Dr. Punzo's research interests center on understanding the mechanisms of photoreceptor loss in genetic inherited diseases like Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) and age-related diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
