Claudine Gay is the Wilbur A. Cowett Professor of Government and African and African-American Studies at Harvard University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences. She is currently on leave during Fall 2025 but remains an active faculty member. Previously, she served as the Dean of Social Science for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and held academic positions at Stanford University.
Education:
- PhD in Government from Harvard University (1998)
- Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Stanford University (1992), graduated with Honors and Distinction
Research Focus spans American political behavior, public opinion, minority politics, and urban politics. Her work explores how descriptive representation affects political engagement, neighborhood influences on racial attitudes, intergroup cooperation, districting impacts, and housing mobility programs' effects on political participation. Current projects include studies on the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program, the Great Migration's influence on Black voter representation, and survey context effects on linked fate measurement.
