Claudia Maraston is a Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the Faculty of Technology and the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation. She holds a PhD from the University of Bologna, followed by postdoctoral positions at the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich and the Max-Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics. In 2005, she received a Marie-Curie Fellowship at the University of Oxford, later joining Portsmouth in 2007 as a Senior Lecturer and advancing to her current role. Her research focuses on stellar population modeling, galaxy evolution, and high-redshift phenomena.
Maraston's work includes groundbreaking studies using the MaNGA survey and contributions to the Euclid mission. She has authored over 240 publications, with recent articles addressing neutron star/black hole graveyards, quiescent galaxy spectral features, and the Euclid mission's observational framework. She has supervised 13 PhD students and holds grants like the Marie-Curie Excellence Team Grant (2007). Her lab, the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation, is a leading center for cosmological research.
