Claudia Hattendorff is a Professor of Art History at the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, affiliated with the Institute for Art Education (FB03) and co-opted at the Institute for Art History (FB04). She serves as a Deputy Managing Director, Chair of the Master's Examination Board, and Principle Investigator at the International Graduate Center for the Study of Culture (GCSC). Her roles include library representation, advisory board memberships, and leadership in academic committees.
- Education: Studied art history and Renaissance cultural history at Universität Hamburg and Warburg Institute, London; promoted in Hamburg under Martin Warnke
- Research: Focuses on 18th–20th century European/American art, political visual discourse, transculturality, and eyewitness constructions in art
- Current Projects: Book project Verité. Pictorial Realisms in Representations of Contemporary History in France around 1800
Her publications span topics from Napoleonic visual politics to Roma aesthetics at the Venice Biennale, with recent work on pandemic imagery and transnational art pedagogy. She leads interdisciplinary colloquia and collaborates with institutions like the German Association for Art History.
