Claudia Felser is a Scientific Member and Director at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in Dresden and Vice President of the Max Planck Society (Chemical-Physical-Technical Section) since June 2023. Previously, she was a Full Professor (C4) at the University of Mainz (2003) and Assistant Professor (C1) at the same institution (1996). Her academic journey includes postdoctoral fellowships at the Max Planck Institute in Stuttgart and CNRS in Nantes, France.
Her research centers on quantum materials, with emphasis on:
- Heusler compounds for spintronic applications
- Topological materials for energy conversion
- Design and synthesis of novel functional materials
She has received numerous accolades, including:
- EPS Europhysics Prize (2023)
- Max Born Prize and Wilhelm Ostwald Medal (2022)
- Election to U.S. National Academy of Sciences (2021) and Engineering (2020)
- APS James C. McGroddy Prize (2019)

She leads institutional initiatives like the NAT-LAB for STEM outreach and holds fellowships in IEEE, APS, IOP, and CIFAR Canada.
