Claudia Blümle is a Professor for History and Theory of Form at the Institute for Art and Visual History at Humboldt University Berlin since 2014. She serves as a Principal Investigator at the Cluster of Excellence Matters of Activity (Image, Knowledge, Design) since 2020 and leads its Focus Group Object Space Agency. Her academic career includes a Professorship in Aesthetics and Art History (2009–2014) and Vice-Rector for Science and Research (2010–2014) at the Münster Art Academy, alongside research roles at the University of Basel (2005–2009) and Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (2002–2005).
Education:
- 2008 – PhD at University of Basel with dissertation Der Zeuge im Bild. Dieric Bouts und die Konstitution des modernen Rechtsraumes.
- 2002 – Licentiata philosophiae at University of Basel with thesis Augentäuschung und Blickzähmung. Théodore Géricaults Monomanenbildnisse (1819-1824).
Research Interests: Claudia Blümle’s work bridges image theory, art philosophy, and interdisciplinary studies connecting law, science, and media. She explores image techniques from the 19th to 21st centuries and visual politics in the Early Modern period. Her current projects include Object Space Agency and collaborations like Dora Hitz. An Exhibition Project with the Liebermann-Villa am Wannsee.
Publications: Her research focuses on interdisciplinary intersections of art, media, and law. Key monographs include Der Zeuge im Bild (2011) and Visuelle Zeitgestaltung (2020). She co-edits the journal Regards croisés (2012–) and the Bildwelten des Wissens book series (2015–).
