Claudia Baumgart-Ochse

Dr. Claudia Baumgart-Ochse is a Senior Researcher and Head of the Transnational Politics Department at the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF), a Leibniz Institute affiliated with Goethe University Frankfurt. She also serves on PRIF's Executive Board and as Editorial Director of the Peace Report. Her research focuses on religion's role in conflicts, Middle East politics, and transnational religious actors in global governance. She holds a PhD from Goethe University (2008), with prior studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS, University of London) and the University of Frankfurt.

Her academic contributions span over 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, including seminal work on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, religious NGOs at the UN, and the intersection of religion and international relations. She has edited volumes such as Religious NGOs at the United Nations: Polarizers or Mediators? and contributed to policy reports like the Friedensgutachten. Her work bridges academic research with policy advice, emphasizing the need for inclusive global governance frameworks.

Recognition includes the Alexander Foundation Prize for her study on the Middle East conflict. She actively engages in public debates, media commentary, and interfaith dialogue initiatives, advocating for peaceful conflict resolution strategies in polarized contexts like the Gaza conflict and Middle East nuclear non-proliferation.
