Claude Julie Bourque is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Department of Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine at Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Medicine. She holds a PhD in Education from Université de Sherbrooke (2011) and an M.A. in Sociology (2008). Her research focuses on collaborative methodologies, mixed methods, and the ethical and social dimensions of healthcare education. She is affiliated with the Centre de pédagogie appliquée aux sciences de la santé (CPASS) and serves on the Quebec Network for Research in Palliative and End-of-Life Care (RQSPAL) steering committee.
Her work addresses pedagogical strategies in health sciences, including non-technical skills training, palliative care ethics, and family involvement in neonatal and pediatric care. She supervises graduate students in clinical ethics and medical pedagogy and teaches advanced qualitative research methods and ethics seminars.
Recent publications explore resource parent collaboration in neonatology, motivational communication in pediatric oncology, and the Nesting Dolls Design for bereaved parent recruitment in palliative care. Current research projects include studies on medical aid in dying in Quebec, dance-based non-technical skills training in neonatal resuscitation, and pediatric palliative care ethics.
Bourque has secured grants from FRQSC, FRQS, and Préma-Québec, totaling over CAD 2M. She advises on over a dozen graduate theses and co-leads teams investigating healthcare ethics, interprofessional education, and family-centered care innovation.
