Claude Daley is a Professor in the Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering department at the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, Memorial University of Newfoundland. His work focuses on Arctic marine structures, ship design, and ice interaction mechanics.
- B.Sc., University of Western Ontario
- M.S.E., Princeton University
- D.Sc., Aalto University (formerly Helsinki University of Technology)
Research interests include ship structures, ship/ice interaction, ice mechanics, and design rule development for polar environments. His work has contributed to IACS Polar Rules and safety standards for Arctic vessels.
Recent publications address ice load modeling, structural analysis, and polar ship design. Notable projects include STePS2 (2009-2014) and GEM (2014-2016) focused on ice-structure interactions and simulation tools.
Scientific accolades include the Kenneth S.M. Davidson Medal (2018/19) and Vice-Admiral Chochrane Award (2013) from SNAME, alongside fellowships from Engineers Canada, SNAME, and the Canadian Academy of Engineering.
