Claude A. Clegg III

Claude A. Clegg III is the Lyle V. Jones Distinguished Professor of History at UNC Chapel Hill with joint appointment in African, African American, and Diaspora Studies. His research examines African American history, US southern history, and social movements.

Authored acclaimed works including 'The Black President: Hope and Fury in the Age of Obama' analyzing the Obama presidency's historical significance. Previous biographies include Elijah Muhammad and studies of African American migration to Liberia.

Current project is a Marcus Garvey biography. Research regularly featured in national media including NPR and C-SPAN. Teaches courses on the American presidency and Black nationalism.
