Clare Ostle

Dr. Clare Ostle is a CPR Research Fellow and Coordinator of the Pacific Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR) Survey at the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom. Her research focuses on marine biogeochemistry, ocean plastics, and plankton ecology, with a particular emphasis on the marine carbonate system and carbon dioxide flux dynamics. She developed a method for estimating Net Community Production (NCP) using ships of opportunity equipped with oxygen optodes, advancing sampling techniques for the CPR dataset.

Education: BSc (Swansea University) and PhD (University of East Anglia).

Research Interests: Instrument development for oceanography, operationalization of ecological indicators for marine policy, and global ocean acidification monitoring. Active in UK Pelagic Habitat Expert Group, Global Ocean Acidification Observing Network (GOA-ON), Gulf Watch Alaska, and PICES.
