Dr. Clare Mary Boston is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Geography and Geosciences at the University of Portsmouth, within the School of the Environment and Life Sciences under the Faculty of Science and Health. She holds a PhD from Queen Mary, University of London, and has extensive experience in glacial geomorphology and Quaternary geology. Her research focuses on glacial processes, ice dynamics, and paleoclimatic reconstructions, particularly in Scotland, Norway, and Greenland.
Dr. Boston’s academic journey includes postgraduate supervision of three PhD students and teaching responsibilities across multiple levels, including modules on Glaciers and Glaciation, Quaternary Geology, and GIS. She has secured funding from EU INTERACT and the British Society for Geomorphology for projects investigating plateau icefields and glacial retreat dynamics.
Her research interests span glacial geomorphology, sedimentology, and the impact of climate change on glaciers. Notable contributions include studies on Younger Dryas icefields, Greenland’s mass loss, and the glacial history of the Wicklow Mountains. Dr. Boston collaborates with institutions globally and is affiliated with the Institute of the Earth and Environment.
Her publications highlight expertise in glacier dynamics, climatic controls on ice margins, and geomorphological mapping. She actively contributes to policy discussions on Arctic environments through submissions to UK parliamentary inquiries.
Dr. Boston’s work bridges academic research and practical applications, influencing both environmental policy and educational curricula in physical geography.
