Clare Goodess

Clare Goodess is an Associate Fellow at the Climatic Research Unit (CRU), School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia (UEA). She has held roles including Senior Research Fellow and Research and Administration Manager at CRU until retiring in 2022. Her work bridges climate modeling and user needs, focusing on regional climate projections, extreme events, and climate services. She has contributed to major projects like ENSEMBLES, CIRCE, and FP7 initiatives, coordinating efforts to translate climate science for policy and industry.

Research Interests: Dr Goodess specializes in regional climate change impacts, particularly for extreme weather events and Mediterranean/Caribbean climates. She emphasizes communication between climate scientists and decision-makers, leading initiatives like the Global Framework for Climate Services and CORDEX downscaling programs. Her work includes developing climate tools for renewable energy, health profiles for WHO, and urban sustainability strategies in cities worldwide.

Key Projects: Coordinated the European Climatic Energy Mixes (ECEM) climate service, SECLI-FIRM for energy/water sector forecasts, and CUSSH urban sustainability projects. She was a Lead Author for the IPCC SREX report (2012) and contributed to AR5. Her recent focus includes climate adaptation strategies for small island states and interdisciplinary urban heat island research.

Grants & Collaborations: Involved in EU Horizon 2020, FP6/FP7 projects, and Wellcome Trust funding. Collaborations span institutions globally, including European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts and Tyndall Centre.

Labs/Teams: Active in CRU and Centre for Ocean & Atmospheric Sciences. Leads interdisciplinary teams on climate services, health impacts, and energy systems.
