Dr. Clare Cummings is a Lecturer in Politics and Development at the Global Development Institute, University of Manchester. She holds a PhD in Social Science (2023) and MSc degrees from the University of Manchester (2019) and University of Amsterdam (2012). Her research focuses on power relations, institutional change, and transnational influences on environmental justice in the Global South. Key areas include political settlements analysis, cultural political economy, and service delivery challenges in Africa.
External roles include Associate at The Policy Practice (2021–present) and Research Associate at ODI (2018–present). Notable contributions include advancing 'Thinking and Working Politically' frameworks, influencing NGO/donor strategies in Nigeria, Niger, Tanzania, and Nepal. Recent publications analyze institutional change in Nepal/El Salvador and urban informality in Africa.
