Clare Balboni

Dr. Clare Balboni is Assistant Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and Co-Director of the STICERD Economics of Environment and Energy Programme. Her research examines environmental and development economics with regional focus on South Asia and Africa. She serves as Research Programme Co-Director for Energy at the International Growth Centre and Editorial Board Member for the Review of Economic Studies.

Research interests include:

• Environmental impacts of infrastructure development
• Spatial dimensions of economic inequality
• Climate change adaptation in developing economies
• Political economy of forest conservation
• Urban-rural poverty dynamics

Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on climate adaptation (50% of works), deforestation economics (25%), and urban poverty (25%). Methodologically, she employs experimental approaches to study poverty traps and econometric analysis of environmental policies.

Dr. Balboni advises governmental bodies including the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and has received honors including the John Hicks Prize for her doctoral work on coastal infrastructure resilience.
