Clara Heinrich's research focuses on economic sociology and political economy, with particular emphasis on fiscal policy and state capacity, sociological theory, capitalism research, power theories and epistemic authority, financial markets, and the sociology of morality. Her doctoral project examines the underfunding of public investments in Germany over recent decades, exploring their sociological and moral foundations through computational text analysis methods, statistics, and archival sources. She investigates various facets of political discourse as well as historical education and socialization patterns of the population since World War II.
Her published work demonstrates a consistent focus on the intersection of business power, political economy, and sociological analysis. The 2025 article "Beyond formal politics: the epistemic facet of business power" represents a significant contribution to understanding how corporate public relations shape political dynamics in capitalist democracies.
Clara has taught various courses at Free University Berlin including seminars on "Conflict in contemporary societies," "Power: Its ambiguities and disguises," "Text Analysis in R," and "Introduction to Social Sciences Methods." Her teaching reflects her interdisciplinary approach combining sociological theory with quantitative methods.
