Claire Ross is an Adjunct Research Fellow at the UWA Oceans Institute and a Research Scientist in the Marine Science Program at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, Western Australia. She holds a PhD in Environmental Science (2018) and a BSc (Hons) in Marine Science (2013), both from The University of Western Australia.
Her research focuses on coral reef responses to environmental change, including coral bleaching mechanisms, recruitment dynamics, calcification processes, and the sustainability of calcium carbonate production. She also investigates tropicalisation of high-latitude reefs and marine conservation strategies. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to life below water and climate action.
Notable contributions include studies on crustose coralline algae’s role in reef carbonate production and coral reef ecosystem resilience. She has been recognized as a finalist in the Premier’s Science Awards (2018). Collaborations span institutions globally, with datasets published on platforms like DRYAD and Zenodo.
