Claire Katz is the Associate Provost for Faculty Advocacy at Texas A&M University, holding a courtesy professorship in Philosophy and a primary appointment in Education within the College of Education and Human Development. She has been at Texas A&M since 2006, previously serving as Department Head of Teaching, Learning, and Culture and Associate Dean of Faculties. Her research focuses on contemporary continental philosophy, feminist theory, and philosophy in K-12 education, particularly through her pioneering philosophy summer camps and educator training programs.
Dr. Katz earned a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Memphis and a Master’s in Teaching (K-12 Philosophy) from Montclair State University. Her work bridges Jewish philosophy, ethics, and education, with notable publications on Emmanuel Levinas, feminist ethics, and youth philosophy pedagogy. She has received prestigious awards including the Piper Professorship and APA/PDC Prize for her innovative programs.
Her K-12 initiatives, such as the Aggie School of Athens philosophy camp, have impacted thousands of students nationally and internationally. She advocates for humanities in education and serves on the National Humanities Alliance Board. Current research includes a monograph on 'Radical Apology: Gender, Religion, and the Limits of Forgiveness.'
