Dr. Claire Goodley is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at Manchester Metropolitan University, part of the Faculty of Health and Education. She serves as Programme Leader for MA Education, MA Educational Leadership, and MA Inclusive Education. Her academic background includes a PGCE from the University of Manchester (1999) and over 17 years of secondary teaching experience, including roles as Head of PSHE and Citizenship. She holds a Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and co-convenes BERA’s Practitioner-Researcher SIG.
Her research focuses on teacher lived experience in neoliberal educational contexts, digital technology impacts on pedagogy, and agency within performative systems. Key projects include the PIVOT initiative exploring pandemic-era teaching and the Oasis Horizon iPad study. She has supervised multiple PhD candidates to completion and reviews for journals like Journal of Education Policy and Reflective Practice.
Teaching interests span educational leadership, inclusive education, and reflective practice. She emphasizes dialogic methods and process-led teaching to help students develop their academic voice. Professional service includes former roles as Ofsted Lead for a non-profit childcare organization and Board Chair during pandemic operations.
