Claire Goldstein is a Professor of French and Director of the Humanities Program at the University of California, Davis. Previously, she served at Miami University's Department of French and Italian. Her research focuses on ancien régime French literature and culture, emphasizing visual/material culture, early modern science, and environmental humanities. Notable projects include studies on comets in 17th-century France and fashion accessories' cultural implications.
Education: PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. She advises undergraduates in French, co-directed an early modern science research cluster, and teaches special collections courses at Shields Library. Awards include the 2021 Harold Jones Best Essay Award.
