Claire Garrido-Ortega is a full-time Lecturer in the Department of Health Science at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), part of the College of Health & Human Services. She teaches courses on epidemiology, community health education, health behavior, and human sexuality. Her academic background includes a Master of Public Health from CSULB and certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
Her research focuses on women’s health, epidemiology, and disparities in health outcomes related to race, ethnicity, and gender. Notable projects include studies on Cambodian American tobacco use and religiosity’s impact on sexual health awareness among college students. She collaborates across disciplines, including Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies and Sociology, to address sexual and reproductive health issues.
Ms. Garrido-Ortega actively serves on public health initiatives such as the CSULB Tobacco-Free Task Force, BREATHE Campaign, and the City of Long Beach’s Coalition for a Smoke-Free Long Beach. Her work bridges academic research with community health advocacy, emphasizing policy and cultural competence.
