Claes Ek is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg. He holds a PhD from Lund University (2016) and serves as a BECC PI. His research focuses on environmental and behavioral economics, public economics, and applied econometrics, with emphasis on household pro-environmental behavior, policy spillovers, and field experiments on waste management.
His teaching areas include Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, and Environmental Economics. He has developed an innovative role-play exercise for undergraduate environmental economics courses, simulating stakeholder negotiations in environmental disasters. Recent research highlights include large-scale field experiments on norm-based feedback for waste reduction and analysis of public good provision under uncertainty.
Ek has authored/co-authored studies in top journals such as Journal of Public Economics, Experimental Economics, and Journal of Environmental Economics and Management. His work explores policy instrument preferences, behavioral spillovers across prosocial activities, and the effectiveness of educational interventions in fostering sustainable household practices.
Current projects involve analyzing power calculations for panel data experiments and investigating how environmental education in schools impacts family behavior. He collaborates with institutions like Chalmers Institute of Technology on stakeholder engagement methodologies.
