Cihan Tugal is a Professor at the Department of Sociology, University of California, Berkeley. His work bridges political sociology, social theory, and comparative-historical analysis, focusing on populism, capitalism, and social movements across Turkey, Egypt, the United States, and the Middle East. He has conducted extensive fieldwork in Turkey and Egypt, theorizing on topics like neoliberalization, welfare ethics, and the rise of right-wing regimes.
