Ciara Bracken-Roche is an Assistant Professor in the School of Law and Criminology at Maynooth University and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Criminology at the University of Ottawa. She holds a PhD from Queen's University, an MA from the University of Warwick, and a BSc from the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on the governance of surveillance technologies, particularly drones and policing practices in Canada and Ireland. She explores the intersection of technology, governance, and social implications, with a focus on privacy legislation and critical criminology.
Dr. Bracken-Roche is affiliated with the Centre for Access to Information and Justice, the Surveillance Studies Network, and WIIS-Canada. She leads the 'Big Data Governance' research project as Principal Investigator, examining the adoption of surveillance technologies in policing. Her work bridges academic and advocacy efforts, including the Unlocking Potential Project.
Teaching interests include criminology, cybercrime, surveillance studies, and technocratic governance. She advises students in security studies, privacy, and governmentality.
