Cian Power is a Lecturer in Ancient Hebrew Language at the University of Oxford's Department of Theology. He holds a BA in Philosophy and Theology (2008) and MSt in Jewish Studies (2009) from Oriel College, Oxford, followed by a PhD from Harvard University (2015). His research focuses on identity formation in ancient Israel/Judah through linguistic and sociological analysis of the Hebrew Bible, particularly examining representations of linguistic diversity and the Northern Kingdom of Israel. He has held a postdoctoral fellowship at Uppsala University (2016-2018) and contributes as an academic translator and editor.
His work explores how language reflects societal boundaries and national identity, with recent publications analyzing metaphors of Israel-Judah relations and exilic imagery in prophetic texts. He has edited conference proceedings on exile in prophetic literature and translated works like Jesus, the Apocalyptic Prophet from Swedish to English.
