Chunmei Wang serves as an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at Texas Tech University. Her appointment is part-time through the STEM CORE program, which focuses on interdisciplinary STEM education and outreach initiatives across undergraduate, faculty, and community domains.
Her research specializes in numerical methods and scientific computing for partial differential equations governing scientific and engineering phenomena. She has developed novel finite element methods with rigorous convergence analysis across seven key problem domains: linear hyperbolic equations, elliptic Cauchy problems, nondivergence-form elliptic equations, Maxwell's equations, linear elasticity with interface problems, div-curl systems, and biharmonic equations. This work bridges theoretical computational mathematics with practical applications in fluid dynamics, electromagnetics, and solid mechanics.
Through STEM CORE, Wang contributes to systemic STEM advancement via the President's STEM Mentoring Academy, Discipline-based Education Research community, K-12 outreach programs including Traveling Labs and Tech Savvy Family Nights, and community college partnerships like BAT-LSAMP. The program's infrastructure supports undergraduate research positions, virtual lab resources, and grant development assistance for faculty.
