Chueng Ji is a Professor of Physics at North Carolina State University (NCSU), part of the College of Sciences. He joined NCSU in 1987, progressing from Assistant (1987–1992) to Associate (1992–1997) and then Full Professor (1997–present). His career includes postdoctoral roles at SLAC and Stanford University, and visiting professorships at Seoul National University. Ji’s research focuses on Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), light-front dynamics, and hadron structure, with contributions to relativistic quark models and chiral effective theory. He has held leadership roles, including Chair of the International Light Cone Advisory Committee and President of the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association.
Education:
- PhD in Physics, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), 1982
- MS in Physics, KAIST, 1978
- BS in Physics, Seoul National University, 1976
Research Interests:
- Development of relativistic quark models informed by QCD for hadron structure and spectral analysis
- Pioneering work on light-front dynamics and its interpolation with instant form dynamics
- Chiral effective theory applications to long-distance QCD phenomena
- Perturbative QCD calculations of nucleon/meson form factors
- Nuclear/particle physics applications to astrophysics, including neutron stars and dark matter
Publications: Over 100 peer-reviewed articles, emphasizing QCD phenomenology, light-front dynamics, and hadron structure. Recent work includes studies on Jefferson Lab experiments, QCD confinement, and EIC theory.
Awards & Leadership: Notable roles in professional organizations but no explicit scientific awards listed. Leadership includes directing NCSU’s Physics Graduate Program (2013–2015) and serving as a committee chair.
Labs & Collaborations: Active in theoretical physics collaborations, particularly in light-front QCD and hadron structure studies. His work bridges particle physics with astrophysical applications.
